Music

October 2018

I am thrilled to be returning to teach music this year, my fifth year at CEH!  In music class, we will be learning both traditional and modern Jewish music related to our Jewish values of the month, holidays, and from other textual sources.  This year I plan to incorporate more movement into the curriculum, as I will be joined by Abby Cohen, who has a vast amount of dance experience.  ~ Will Rivlin

Students are having a blast in music this year! We are singing songs about our Jewish Values of the Month, holidays, and songs which relate to each week’s parasha. S o far, we have learned songs in Hebrew, English, and Ladino.  By the end of the school year, we will add Yiddish, Luganda, and Kiswahili to our repertoire!  Students (and their families) are encouraged to come to Musical Shabbat on the second Friday of every month for even more Jewish music!

We’ve been having a great time in music singing about kehilah, community, and ahavat Yisrael, love of Israel. The students have learned songs about the importance of community, and we have learned about Jewish communities all over the world, including the Abayudaya in Uganda. So far this year, we have sung songs in English, Hebrew, Ladino (Judeo-Spanish), Arabic, and Luganda!
