October 2018

Kitah Dalet will read The Explorer’s Bible: Volume 2, which begins with the story of the Jews escaping from Egypt and ends with the books of Ezra and Nehemiah. For each story, we discuss its relevance to our lives today, including how what we learn can be used to improve our world and ourselves.  ~ Melissa Kaps

On Wednesdays, I teach Kitot Gimmel and Dalet where our emphasis will be on the Hebrew Prayer book.  ~ Robyn Norrbom

Hello!

On Sunday, November 11th, class for Kitah Dalet will take place at Temple Rodef Shalom so that the students can participate in Mitzvah Mania.  You should have received an email with the subject “Mitzvah Mania for Kitah Dalet (4th Grade)” that contains more information on the event and logistics for the day.  This email also contains the form that each family should fill out. I will be out of town on November 11th so I will not be going to Mitzvah Mania.  The students will have a substitute teacher instead.

Over the last couple of weeks, we discussed the Jewish people’s journey through the desert to the Promised Land.  We talked about how God protected them and gave them the 10 commandments.  We also discussed why most of the Jews who escaped Egypt, including Moses, were not allowed to enter the Promised Land.  Over the next weeks, we will read about how the Jews conquered Jericho and other cities.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

See you this Sunday!

Hello,

Over the past couple of weeks we read stories about Deborah and Samson, who were leaders of Israel that defended Israel from their enemies.  In addition, we celebrated Hanukkah with Kitah Aleph and shared food and games.  Everyone had a great time!

Over the next few classes we will discuss Ruth and the first kings of Israel:  Saul and David.

Have a great weekend and a wonderful New Year!

Melissa

January 2019

In January we will focus on the blessing G’vurot from the Amidah.  We will explore the meaning and how it relates to our lives.  We will practice reading the blessing, as well.

Good morning!

We had a great time at Tifereth Israel last Sunday, where we met new people, shared our Jewish memories and family objects, watched a film about our part in the Jewish story, and began talking about Israel.  This Sunday, Kitah Dalet will participate in the All-Shul Shabbat Learning.  We will continue learning new Bible stories in the next couple of weeks, beginning with the stories of Ruth and the first kings of Israel, Saul and David.

Stay warm,
Melissa

Hello!

The last few weeks have been quite busy for Kitah Dalet! The students read the Bible stories of Ruth, Saul, David, Solomon, and Elijah. During our discussions of these people, we discussed why the Jewish people wanted to be ruled by a king (rather than a judge, for example) and why God was unhappy about this. In addition, they participated in the All-Shul Learning on Kashrut, learning how to find out if foods are kosher, and in the second session of Israel learning with students from Tifereth Israel Congregation. Also, they had a great time at the Purim Carnival, playing games and eating hamentashen! Over the next couple of weeks, we will read about the prophets, Jonah, Isaiah, and Jeremiah.

Have a great weekend and see you on Sunday!

Melissa
