Mozaic Project for Syrian Immigrants

Thanks to the generous donations from our members, Congregation Etz Hayim purchased copies of “First Arabic Words” and the “Oxford Essential Arabic Dictionary” for children of recently settled Syrian immigrant families.

On December 4, 2016, the Social Action Committee held an event to personalize the books to be given to representatives from Mozaic, the organization helping resettle Syrian families in the Baltimore-Washington area.

Congregation Etz Hayim gave more than 400 children’s Arabic-English dictionaries to Mozaic, a Maryland-based non-profit organization that helps newly settled Syrian refugees.
Social Action Committee Chairperson Rachel Waldstein and donation project coordinator Nate Ainspan. The project raised more than $1,200 to help Syrian refugee children learn the language of their new country.
CEH youngsters sign labels to be placed in the donated books. The labels read, “From Your Friends at Congregation Etz Hayim.”
